Cheryl Cole – Vogue cover girl

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

Ms Cole has seen her star rise to dizzying heights since she took on he role of X Factor judge. Now the fashionistas have taken note and invited her to grace the cover of Vogue (the Herve Leger dress featured certainly went down well). We already checked her fashion credentials months ago here.

Generally this ‘honor’ is reserved for the most famous UK and international celebrities, there was very public disagreement when Coleen McLoughlin (wife of footballer Wayne Rooney) was featured in the magazine. Fans of the magazine felt it ‘lowered the tone’ and Coleen didn’t even make the cover.

This will be a huge step of fashion recognition for Cheryl (her stylist has done an amazing job) as only a few years ago she was heavily criticised for her ‘tacky’ advertising campaign with husband Ashley Cole for the national lottery (featured right).

Possibly the most recognised British ‘fashionista’ Victoria Beckham, only made the cover this March, despite years of fame in the Spice girls.

A source confirmed: “Cheryl has been approached about Vogue and she is very excited.

Not sure if it’s the groundbreaking Itailian ‘All black issue‘, but it’s certainly a new direction.

Pamela Anderson – Mystery Masked Lover at Vivienne Westwood Show

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Pamela Anderson ensured she got all of the press coverage at the Vivienne Westwood Red show this evening.

She chose to attend the event with a dapper suited man in a white plastic mask and hands. Speculation was rife amongst the crowd as to who the mystery man was, with guesses ranging from an unusually shy Tommy Lee to Michael Jackson?!

Peaches Geldof – Vegas wedding, creative mistake?

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

Peaches Geldof and Max Drummey, from band ‘Chester French’, got married in a spontaneous ceremony on holiday in Vegas last week. Her agent made an official announcement today, stating;

“Their marriage has the full support of their family and friends. Peaches and Max did not want unnecessary publicity, but following growing media speculation, have decided to set out the facts. No further comment from either will be forthcoming.”

The couple supposedly met two years ago, but are alleged to only just have become a couple at last months I-Tunes festival. Peaches was co-presenting and Max was performing with his band.

It has been difficult for Peaches lately, today it was announced that she had been rejected from the VIP list at the V-festival (oh the trauma). Adding further insult to injury, a Virgin Radio source has said “Peaches has had her day now, It’s all about Pixie (her younger sister). She’s really stepping up and is definitely the cooler of the sisters“. Pixie has of course been given the VIP access at the V-festival.

In addition, Peaches collapsed in her Camden home last month, following a suspected drugs overdose. Her statement following the incident was widely criticised; “People have pre-conceived ideas of me – they can be so negative,” she says. “Creative people can be allowed to make mistakes”.

Lets home this whirlwind marriage isn’t a “Creative Mistake” too far.

Here are the best and worst from this month……………….

A tale of two premieres;

Christian Bale

Christian Bale seen here wearing a French navy Prada suit. He compliments this with a slightly lighter shade shirt to really make his eyes go ‘pop’. Overall we can see, sharp tailoring, which for a man made up of angular features = a sharp look. One could argue that most men can’t go wrong with a Prada suit, but it is the subtleties, such as the perfect shade of shirt that take this from an expensive suit on a man, to a man really wearing an expensive suit. He wears it well, top marks.

Sara DunnSarah Dunn (Hollyoaks) – On the surface this is a great outfit, nice colour, dressy enough for a premiere and yet not trying too hard, (a rarity for the cast members of this soap). Problem here is the huge faux pas, firmly relegating her celebrity status to the Z list. Consider this a life coaching point. Everyone, who was important enough, got the memo that they were all wearing black, out of respect for the death of Heath Ledger. Sarah didn’t get the memo and certainly got the photographers attention as she stood out in a sea of black. It made her look insensitive at worst and blundering at best. Also missing out on the memo was Gary Linekers wife who wore canary yellow.

David Duchovney does the exact opposite of Christian Bale. Dark of features and yet wearing light colours next to his face,David Duchovny he simply looks drained. The colour of the suit is sometimes enhanced as ‘Mushroom’, however it really can be a tricky colour to wear. It’s just so non-descript, bland and boring. Here he looks like the suit is wearing him, it’s far more noticeable than his face, drawing the eye away. Bad choice, he looks much better in a darker jacket.

Gillian AndersonGillian Anderson looked lovely at the London premiere, with her patterned and flowing dress but absolutely ‘nails’ it at the Los Angeles premiere, in navy blue Moschino. The blue is warm enough to compliment her pale skin and red hair and the colour makes her eyes look beautiful. The sleeves are pretty, the neckline is sexy without being over the top and the stitched in waistband fits perfectly.

What is a wardrobe stylist?

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

Stylists are often talked about, but what are they?

A wardrobe stylist is someone who picks out the outfits (clothing, accessories etc) worn by people in catwalk shows, photo shoots, commercial print catalogues, TV appearances, music videos and concert performances. They also choose the outfits for any public appearances made by celebrities, models or other public figures.

A stylist will mainly use designer ranges and collections not yet available to the public (i.e. a season early). In contrast to ‘personal shoppers’, who tend to work with the general public, mainly using high street stores and widely available designer pieces.

Stylists often consult with the client, photographer, hair stylists and make up artists to put together the particular look or theme for the specific project.

A wardrobe stylist is sometimes referred to as a style consultant, fashion stylist or image consultant. The job may also entail casting models, restructuring a client’s entire wardrobe, reorganising a client’s closet as well as many other duties relating to the client’s personal lifestyle.

Prices for independent stylists range from £500 to into the thousands for a day.
